Fire Prevention Seminar at FGC+

In 2017 alone, almost 14,000 fire incidents recorded by the nation’s Bureau of Fire Protection totaled to 7.8 billion PHP in estimated damages. According to the same source, the numbers go higher each year – with a 35% increase in fire-related incidents in the first quarter of 2018. Fires not only cause devastating damage to properties and livelihood, but pose a big risk to lives, as well. These statistics are only few of the many reasons why it is important to bring light to Presidential Proclamation No. 115-A, issued on November 17, 1966, by then President Ferdinand E. Marcos – March as the Fire Prevention Month.

As part of our involvement in this initiative, last March 20 and 22, FGC+ invited our local fire department (for both Davao and Bacolod sites) to better educate us about fire prevention: what the main causes of fires are, how to avoid them, and what to do in a blazing (excuse the pun) situation. To cap off the mini-lecture, our employees were also asked to participate in a fire drill, complete with a demonstration on how to use fire extinguishers.

Those in attendance can attest that this was definitely a great learning experience for all of us, a gentle reminder of putting safety above all.

Fire Fantasy Costume Contest

March may be the hottest month of the year, but certainly not hotter than our FGC+ employees sashaying in their creative, fiery ensembles for our Fire Fantasy Costume Contest. After learning the serious side with our city’s firefighters, in a lighter nod to the Fire Prevention Month, our employees were asked to come in red with a representative from each team in an extra hot, sizzling number. They gamely answered the impromptu Q and A portion, as the EXECOM judged their attires and chose the winners. Both team and individual participants received cash prizes for the event.
